# Using OverControl Chat

> Write, reason, and work with your files in OverControl Chat.

Turn a question, a draft, or a document into useful work with [OverControl Chat](https://chat.overcontrolgroup.com). Choose **Fast** for everyday tasks, **Expert** for deeper reasoning, or **Vision** for images. You can start in your browser without an API key or an integration.

## Start a conversation

**1. Open Chat**

Go to [chat.overcontrolgroup.com](https://chat.overcontrolgroup.com) and sign in with your OverControl account.

**2. Choose a mode**

Use the mode selector to choose **Fast**, **Expert**, or **Vision**. **Fast** is the default. Choose **Vision** when your question includes an image.

**3. Describe the task**

Enter your message and send it. Include the context, the result you need, and any constraints. Attach a supported file if the task depends on its contents.

**4. Refine the answer**

Ask follow-up questions in the same conversation. You can request a shorter version, a different tone, a table, or a closer look at one part of the answer.

For example:

## Choose how you work

| Mode | Use it for |
| - | - |
| **Fast** | Drafting, rewriting, summaries, explanations, and everyday coding questions. |
| **Expert** | Multi-step problems, code review, planning, and comparisons that need deeper reasoning. |
| **Vision** | Questions about screenshots, photographs, diagrams, and other supported images. |

## Work with files and images

Attach a file from the message composer, wait for the upload to finish, then ask a specific question. Chat accepts supported images, text files, and PDFs with extractable text. Choose **Vision** for images; use **Fast** or **Expert** for text documents.

For example:

Chat accepts up to **3 files per message**, with a **5 MiB limit per file** and a **10 MiB combined limit**. See [Files and images](https://docs.overcontrolgroup.com/chat/files-and-images.md) for the supported formats, document limits, and upload troubleshooting.

## Continue or organize a conversation

Use the sidebar to reopen a saved conversation. Start a **New chat** when you move to a different task or document set, so unrelated context does not influence the answer.

Use a conversation's options menu to rename it, choose **Export** to save a local copy, or choose **Delete**. Deletion requires confirmation. Closing the browser or signing out does not delete saved conversations.

Chat currently applies a **30-day retention period**. Save important results outside Chat before they expire. The [Privacy and security guide](https://docs.overcontrolgroup.com/chat/privacy-security.md) explains storage, expiry, and attachment deletion.

## Manage your account and usage

Your OverControl account allowance covers both Chat and API usage. Open the [dashboard](https://app.overcontrolgroup.com/dashboard) to review usage and manage your plan. You do not need to create an API key to use Chat.

Chat currently focuses on conversations and attachments. Web search, code execution, and public share links are not available in the Chat interface. Developers can use [web search](https://docs.overcontrolgroup.com/tools/web-search.md) and [web fetch](https://docs.overcontrolgroup.com/tools/web-fetch.md) through the API.
